When tinting a cars window in California does the owner of the car have to be present?

I want to tint the window of a car, but hte car is under the name of my dad. I’ve asked and he okayed it, but do I need him there to tint it?

When I was younger I used to take the car to the shop all the time (NYC) - not my father. They never asked for any kind of ID. The just want to see the GREEN.
